Strengthening Cultural Awareness at TNC

Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre recently hosted a Cultural Education Workshop for TNC volunteers, delivered by Koori Colours Art Gallery. The session provided a valuable opportunity for volunteers to deepen their cultural understanding and strengthen their capacity to support our diverse community in a respectful and informed way.

This cultural education workshop supported TNC volunteers to deepen cultural understanding and strengthen culturally respectful support for our community.

The workshop explored Aboriginal culture, art, storytelling and lived experience, creating a safe and engaging space for learning, reflection and conversation. Volunteers also participated in a hands-on creative activity, painting emu eggs while listening to cultural stories and perspectives, helping bring learning to life in a meaningful way.

Through storytelling, art and shared conversation, volunteers gained valuable insights into Aboriginal culture, history and lived experience.

Providing cultural education for volunteers is an important part of TNC’s commitment to culturally safe, inclusive and respectful community services. Opportunities like this help build confidence, awareness and understanding, ensuring our volunteers feel better equipped when supporting community members from diverse backgrounds.

This workshop was proudly funded by Soldiers Point Bowling Club, whose generous support made this important learning opportunity possible. We sincerely thank them for their ongoing commitment to strengthening community wellbeing.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Koori Colours Art Gallery for delivering such a thoughtful, engaging and impactful workshop, and to our dedicated volunteers for their openness, willingness to learn and ongoing commitment to supporting our community.

Tomaree Neighbourhood Centre looks forward to continuing to provide opportunities that support cultural learning, inclusion and community connection.
